Privacy Policy
Last updated: 12 September 2026 · applies to NICH: GPT Anonymizer (Beta) and the nichtech.uk website
In short: the extension processes everything locally in your browser. We do not collect, transmit or have access to any of your data. We never see your text in the first place.
1. Who we are
NICH: GPT Anonymizer ("NICH", "we", "our") is a browser extension developed by Andrii Kryshtal, trading as Nichtech, in the United Kingdom. This policy explains how the extension and this website handle your data. Questions: anonymizer@nichtech.uk.
2. The extension
2.1 What we do not collect
The extension does not collect, store, transmit or have access to any of your personal data, including:
- text you type or anonymise;
- browsing history;
- personal information such as names, email addresses or postal addresses;
- usage statistics or analytics;
- cookies or tracking data;
- IP addresses;
- any other personally identifiable information.
2.2 What stays on your device
All processing happens inside your browser. The following data is stored locally on your device only, using Chrome's local storage and browser cache:
- Anonymisation mappings: the link between each original value and its placeholder, so that the original text can be restored. Mappings are cleared before each new anonymisation and never leave your device.
- Custom entities: the terms and placeholders you add yourself. These persist between browser sessions and are stored only on your device.
- The detection model: a BERT model for named-entity recognition, downloaded once from the Hugging Face model hub on first use and then cached by your browser.
2.3 How the extension works
- When you click the NICH button, the text in the field is analysed locally in your browser.
- Names, organisations and locations are detected by the local model; email addresses, phone numbers, dates, times, amounts of money, card numbers, addresses and website addresses are detected by rules built into the extension.
- Each detected value is replaced with a placeholder such as [NAME 1] or [EMAIL 1].
- The mappings are stored locally so that you can restore the original text later.
- When you use "Copy Deanonymized", the extension reads the local mappings and puts the restored text on your clipboard.
2.4 Network connections
- Model download: on first use the extension downloads the detection model from the Hugging Face model hub (their privacy policy). This is a standard HTTPS download; none of your text is sent. It happens once, after which the model is cached.
- No servers of our own: the extension does not connect to any server operated by us. There are no accounts, no registration and no cloud storage.
- No analytics: we do not track how you use the extension.
2.5 Browser permissions
- storage: to keep mappings and custom entities on your device.
- activeTab: to read and replace text in the text box you are working in.
- contextMenus: to add the "Copy Deanonymized" item to the right-click menu.
- offscreen: to run the detection model in a background page of the extension. It is used for local processing only.
3. This website
The website nichtech.uk is a static information site. It sets no cookies and uses no analytics. Our web server keeps standard access logs (IP address, browser type, requested pages and timestamps) for security and to keep the site running. These logs are not combined with any other data and are deleted on a rolling basis. The website loads a web font from Google Fonts, which means your browser requests the font files from Google's servers (Google's privacy policy).
If you email us, we keep your message for as long as needed to answer it and handle any follow-up.
4. Your rights
Because the extension does not collect any personal data, there is nothing for us to access, correct, export or delete on your behalf: all your data remains on your device under your control. You can clear stored mappings and custom entities from the extension's popup, or by removing the extension. For anything relating to this website or email correspondence, you have the rights provided by UK data protection law and the GDPR, including access, rectification and erasure. Contact us at anonymizer@nichtech.uk.
5. Children
The extension does not collect data from anyone, including children under 13. We recommend parental guidance for minors using AI assistants.
6. Security
Your text never leaves your browser, so there is nothing to intercept in transit and nothing stored on our side. Locally stored data is protected by Chrome's built-in security and can be cleared at any time.
7. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will change the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, mention it in the extension's store listing.
8. Disclaimer
The extension is provided "as is" and is currently in beta. While it is designed to protect your privacy, no automatic anonymisation is perfect. Review the masked text before you send it, do not rely solely on anonymisation for legally protected data, and follow your organisation's data-handling policies.
